Destination Fyn

Full day Green communication workshop + Mapping sustainability actions

Challenge

Limited knowledge and visibility of sustainability actions implemented at micro and small tourism business without a certification.

These businesses represent the majority of tourism businesses in Odense.

Solution

We visited 41 eating places and 9 bed & breakfasts across town. Mapping guest focused sustainability actions based on the objective parameters in TripDoodlers user-rating.

Additionally 3 Bed & Breakfast was offered an extended advice session.

Based on the mapping and extended visits, a final report was handed in. Providing the data, findings and recommendations for next step.

Impact

The mapping clearly showed that also micro and small businesses have sustainability actions implemented, even if they can’t flash a full blown sustainability certification.

We increased visibility of sustainability information from 6% of the eating places to 56% and by 100% on accommodations from 25% to 50%.

Recommendation from Mark Hauge Østergaard, Business Developer, Sustainability, Destination Fyn

I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Josephine Piplits several times, and each experience has been truly rewarding.

Our first project together focused on assessing the visibility of sustainability initiatives among tourism stakeholders in Odense. Josephine carried out a comprehensive mapping of concrete sustainability actions across various restaurants and Bed & Breakfasts, providing us with in-depth insights into each actor’s progress on their sustainability journey. We received detailed recommendations on how to improve communication, increase digital visibility, and make it easier for visitors to integrate sustainability into their choices.

In the autumn of 2024, Josephine led a highly successful workshop for more than 30 tourism stakeholders titled “Sustainable Communication.” Combining her expertise in green marketing legislation, behavioral design, and nudging with her strong background in the travel and tourism industry, she made a complex topic both tangible and relevant.

Josephine presented the material in a way that was clear, practical, and engaging, illustrating how each participant could communicate sustainability authentically and avoid the pitfalls of greenwashing. She also demonstrated how business goals, sustainable practices, and effective communication can work seamlessly together. Her ability to engage participants through hands-on tools and interactive exercises showcased her talent for motivating and inspiring action.

Josephine’s expertise and her ability to transform complex knowledge into concrete, actionable steps make her an invaluable resource. I give her my highest recommendation as an expert who makes sustainability accessible, relevant, and inspiring for everyone.
